PhybaOptikz drops new heat with ‘Tales of Danger EP’

A sick concept album laced with ill beats and thematic rhymes. Make sure you cop this.

A sick concept album laced with ill beats and thematic rhymes. Make sure you cop this.

Wa gwan undergrounders. Been a minute since the last post. But trust it was well worth it. I Just got a nice banger from PhybaOptikz off of the Crate Divizion Label. With over 14 years experience in the game.PhybaOptikz started off in production and picked up the mic in the last 9 years and has been rhyming ever since. This time he comes fresh with the bars on ‘Tales of Danger EP‘ This 9 track ep is entirely produced a dope pair of ill producers: Vic Grimes and Giallo Point.

Conceptually as this album starts off it has a real James Bond esque 60’s spy film/crime saga vibe to it throughout. With lots of samples taken from films of that era woven seamlessly through out the beats. Production on this is filthy nice and takes the listener on a fantastic journey. Beats glide nicely over various different, twangy guitar and moody horns, as well as upbeat trumpets and grungy organs. Including tasty servings of various percussion instruments that add to the flavor of  these tunes and blend the musical aura nicely through out track to track. The skits in this sonic outing seem to also seem to add to the grimy crime film saga sensation.

Rhymes seem on point in delivery and subject matter. Weaving tales of espionage, danger and conflict. Verses by PhybaOptikz seem to greatly add to the overall thesis of the album. This is a sick concept album laced with ill beats and thematic rhymes. While overall a short joint in duration ‘Tales of Danger EP‘ makes ups for this with quality tunes within each song. Bringing a well made nice ep to you for your listening pleasure. Try and keep yours eyes peeled to this blog for more info on heavy emcee PhybaOptikz , and ill producers Vic Grimes, and Giallo Point. Plus all your UK hip hop needs. Make sure you go over to Bandcamp and pick up your own copy ‘Tales of Danger EP’ from PhybaOptikz

can b don't sleep art

Yo underground hip hop lovers I’ve got a sick emcee/ radio host to tell you about. From the city that brought you such skilled hip hop greats as ‘The P Brothers, Cappo, Endemic, Joe Buhdha, Stylee Cee, Scorzayzee, and C-mone’.  Straight out of this talented backdrop that is Nottingham, enters dope emcee  Can B. If your new to Can B let me tell you hes no slouch and has been spitting since his school days. The 28 year old up and comer was one third of the group Ill Citizen which released some limited edition joints and also a notably phat digital album release called ‘Pandemic. Ill Citizen played many gigs from 2004 till now but the members have begun to go their own path working on solo projects.

Album Review ‘Don’t Sleep

Ok here we go into the new album ‘Don’t Sleep‘ This record just released and London Underground was fortunate to get to review this. First off this album has heavy production and an eclectic aura to the feel of it. Beats consist of everything off of the sonic spectrum. The listener can expect to hear many different production styles. From electronic Lo Fi, symphonic loops over crispy drums, reggae esque samples, creepy piano over eerie vocals and buzzing, upbeat uplifting pulsating sounds , Jazzy dance riddims, sick beat boxing(from Motormouf), Heavy bass with whining horns over heavy drums, grimy organs, a birdsong chopped and served nice, Spacey keyboards ect… These beats are all over the place. All having their own sound, yet seemingly blending effortlessly together. Meant to be played very loudly in your residential area. Check the production credits, features, and track list on this:

track list dont sleep

Can B comes out rhyming with fierceness and tenacity on ‘Don’t Sleep‘. He seems right at home rhyming over a diverse collection of of beats and differing tempos. He reps Notts nicely on ‘Bed of Nails‘ alongside the Grand Imperial Cappo. He excels dropping a introspective verses on ‘Rough‘ with TomG. ‘Don’t Sleep‘ comes in banging, unapologetic to fans of the same old same carbon copy kind of rap going about a lot these days.  No cookie cutter verses or Kinko copied styles. His verses work well over the sonic varying styles of production. Very entertaining to the brain and ears alike.  Even over beat box with Motormouf, Can B is right at home.  ‘Don’t Sleep‘ is a nice grab for any head looking for some new heat. With new fire beats. In the years to come we can expect Can B to continue to improve on his musical journey as an artist. Plus continue to drop bangers. Nottingham is always big in the UK scene and Can B still finds a way to distinguish himself properly from amidst of this skilled pantheon of artists. Overall a nice release full of banging eclectic beats and a solid group of verses to take you on your journey. London Underground would recommends you pick up the free download to ‘Don’t Sleep‘ and enjoy the album.

New Omerta album review ‘Knowledge Quest The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1

" I was reading a lot preparing to start an album. I wanted it to be my journey through life music and book."

” I was reading a lot preparing to start an album. I wanted it to be my journey through life music and book.” Omerta

Sup my undergrounders!! Got some new heat out of the UK hip hop scene, for y’all to peep with your ear holes. Just got the advance copy of the new album Knowledge Quest ‘The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1 by Omerta. The album is the first part of a planned trilogy of albums from Omerta which will all be made available for free downloading. It has been heavily inspired by Omerta’s life journey and also off of the Robert Anton Wilson book series the ‘Cosmic Trigger Trilogy. If your new to Omerta here’s his story. He began in the battle scene but felt drained and never liked it. So he began doing shows and building up his reputation as an emcee for a bit. Until finally he decided to buckle down and focus on creating his album. Hes spent many year in studios. He soon discovered his deep love of performing shows and penning bars brought him great satisfaction. Once he shifted his focus on his album his creativity could be properly channeled. Here in Omertas own words are what led up to Knowledge Quest ‘The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1

“The knowledge quest is my mate Joe Bruce’s concept. He fed me some documentaries and shit while I was reading a lot preparing to start an album. I wanted it to be my journey through life music and book. The album is the last 10 years of my life as well as a lot of ideas theory’s and shit that I pondered on. The line between reality and fantasy gets crossed a few times and some theory’s in there are flawed possibly. But that’s what I come across in my quest for knowledge! I will be doing another two albums and they will all be free downloads. Knowledge Quest ‘The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1 is called that because the struggle in this album was ugly and  still is ugly. It’s ain’t glamorous with a pretty ending but who’s life is when you’re broke.”

Album Review

The album Knowledge Quest ‘The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1 immediately dives into a metaphysical vibe. With songs and skits which subject matter dives into many deep topics. From societies humanity being lost to scientific advancements in a ever quickening modern world. From the hierarchical governments covertly being manipulated by secret societies. Using sci-ops and false information to control the masses to create a fascist type regime. Somewhat invisible to the majority of society. From astral plane traveling to finding spiritiual knowledge of ourselves. These are some of the themes you will hear in this release. Knowledge Quest ‘The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1 takes the listener on a journey where the very spiritual essence of man struggles to find answers while trying to navigate in our quest for self improvement. Facing these pitfalls with just our wits to guide us on our path to achieve enlightenment in a world filled with darkness.

The tone of the verses are often quite melancholy and address these issues. In my opinion trying to challenge the audience to become aware of the imperceptible spiritual laws and entities around us. Whilst bettering our own path in life and changing the world surrounding us to realize such spiritual growth.  The beats on here are quite unique and coalesce nicely with the verses. This is not a typical boom bap style album. Its loaded with tribal drums, tinny piano, eerie vocal samples, dreary violin samples and thought provoking skits.

I enjoyed this album a lot but depending on the genre of hip hop your into, some may not like it or understand its real potential and genius. Its not for fans who are looking for pop sounding records or typical 90’s style boom bap based hip hop. For me this is what makes Knowledge Quest ‘The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1 album stand out amongst so many other releases. Its a thought provoking album filled with many talented emcees and producers. London Underground recommends that if your looking for some innovative music that challenges your intellect yet satisfies your ears at the same time. Look no further. Be sure to get your free download of  Knowledge Quest ‘The Ugly Struggle’ volume 1   when that lands. Check the track list below to see the heavy lineup that came together in the crafting of this album.

Anik of Dark Circle drops new album! ‘CRYPTOCHROME!’

CRYPTOCHROME coverCheck it out my peoples got some new fire coming straight out of the underground. This time  from Anik of the epic group Dark Circle!! Anik’s new highly anticipated album is called ‘Cryptochrome‘ and  from the tunes I’ve heard, is not only sound lyrically but stretches the boundaries of hip hop. With crisp drum and unique heterogeneous sounding electronic beats. This is not your run of the mill, unimaginative, Xerox copy stuff that has been pumped out as much recently as the preceding years. Cryptochrome seeks in its own right to counter that type of music thats been muddling up both mainstream and underground scenes. Sonically speaking  ‘Cryptochrome’ seems to reach further and achieve more than a typical boom bap or horror core ilk typical album. It’s a bit experimental yet familiar. Anik’s verses seem to feel right at ease along with this electronica fueled sound scape. Trust. This ‘Cryptochrome’ album is for those seeking to broaden their musical horizons in hip hop. While at the same time causing the conscious listener to feel right at home with Anik’s on point bars and delivery. The new Pleasant View track comes back with a fresh new sound and crazy eclectic drums over an understated beat laced with horns. First check out the deep lyrics to Pleasant View. Then peep the new video of it off of ‘Cryptochrome

Pleasant View Lyrics

yeh we came here for the pleasant view, incarnate into the residue,
open up the dust like step into limelight better do right by the higher me,
we don’t chase the light we radiate, in my element is where you’ll be finding me,
take it like flux, flow tidally, til it is my time to go, finalize finally,
eye on effin everything, soaking up entirely,
heaven in my present state, nothing that i try to be,
resin burn, resonate, retrograde, summon up the fire,
we spit from the very depths we are..
whole heart soul, never ever less,
rising from the underneath, bubble up, effervesce,
lightning come, thunder speak, every step is very blessed..

elevate, levitate, level up, lever-like,
lift up literally, luminous meteorite,
fly by leisurely, let it be redefined..
we’re easy viewing from a higher plane..

step through thick snow, trudge ‘long muddy path,
never-ending now is like never still, doesn’t last,
spying out the eyes that are one of us,
everyday journey types, we seek all sorts,
deeply immersedin this, full force,
read the synchronicities, thriving at all cost,
very damn alive, this is all plus,
everything internalized, nothing left untouched,
nothing left unseen.. not a damn scene that is not dreamed,
whether from very deep sleep like we’re concussed,
or dragged out, fetched from the underground depths
of the bottomless sea that is sprawled out beneath of our conscious,
arise like convex, realign like we’re compass,
sublime just like sunset intertwine with the long-lost,
reach out for the space that is in between,
light like indigo, fly like easily lifting with one touch,
accomplish all quest, energize from the one source..

elevate...

If your somehow are unfamiliar with Anik here’s some background to get you up to speed. Trust this is an artist whose done a lot of dope music over the years. Here’s his story in Anik’s own words:

" We released our first 12″ on Defcon records “The Perfectionist /Paradoxes” in 2000 "- Anik

” We released our first 12″ on Defcon records “Perfactionist/Paradoxes” in 2000 “- Anik

DC started in 94 when Hoycke, the other mc, Son, one of the 2 producers and I were at school together in north Germany, skateboarding etc. our main inspiration at the time was the Britcore movement which was very much alive in that part of the world, and we started putting on shows in our hometown to be able to play. this became a tradition over a number of years and we even had people like Mystro, Harry love, and Loop Troop gracing the events, as well as other well-known German Britcore groups of the time. I moved to London for art school in 97 where I met the second producer Pats, and Hoycke soon followed, and we became frequent performers in the London underground scene. we released our first 12″ on Defcon Records (with whom we are now working again) “perfectionist/paradoxes” in 2000 (Hoycke was in Germany at the time and only I was on the record.) in the meantime Hoycke had hooked up with DJs Hysteria and Twizzart in Hamburg, and they joined the team, along with Congolese rapper Blaise (RIP). We sent two demos, one from London produced by Pats, and another from Hamburg produced by Son, to dj Vadim, and he signed us on the spot, and we released our album ‘Civilians‘ on his label Jazz Fudge in 2003. It featured London heavyweights Mystro and Skinnyman, whom we had got to know, and a 12″ single of the album (bleak midwinter/pirates) featured Swedish legends Loop Troop. we played shows extensively in the UK and Europe, and one in NYC with Foreign Beggars, whose first album we featured on a few times. (I had got to know pavan of FB at school in the UK) after the release of our first album, musical interests started dissipating, and the second project ‘The Grey Niklz ep‘ (2004) was pretty much a solo project of mine and son’s, with features by Pats and Hoycke, and scratches by son, Hysteria and Twizzart. it was released on the net only, and as far as I know got a lot of downloads. growing tired of London and the hip hop scene as a whole, I moved to Reykjavík, Iceland in 2005 and played around with experimental Lofi folk rap recordings on tape decks and whatever I could get my hands on. in 2009 I started recording my first rap tunes again, and in 2011 Cryptochrome was formed. Dark Circle also featured on releases by Iron Bridge, Disorda, Natty and Dwella, as well as the UK hip hop documentary ‘Pioneers’” –Anik (The Pioneers documentary can be viewed below)

So there you have it. Quite a lot work has and will continue to come together as Anik progresses down his solo path. But Dark Circle fans don’t despair as there is a new reunion in the works. Much to the joy of many heads whom have been patiently waiting for this moment. Don’t forget to get you paws on the latest ill drop by Anik-‘ Cryptochrome’ out now for ya listening pleasure.
